These days, it seems very likely that we are seeing a boom in interest and romanticism of our new-age space race. Similar to those who experienced and lived through the very first race through the Cold War: Part One, many artists these days have been drawn to ideas and the ever growing possibilities and fascinations of space and space travel. We’ve seen this with numerous modern artists such as Tycho, Moon Boots, TOKiMONSTA, HOME, each one providing a soundtrack or short excerpt logging fantasized journeys and experiences through space or on foreign planets.<\/p>\n
Throughout this exploration we have seen a rebirth and inflation in the usage of vintage hardware synths or software synths modeled after these iconic analog pieces. In a way, artists are taking queues from those who pioneered the use of these instruments and sounds during the first space race. From electronic-based names such as Ray Lynch, to the rock synths and lyricism of David Bowie, and the electronic jazz sounds of Douglas Woods’ “Industrial Underscore”. It’s almost retro-futurism in reverse. Future-retroism?<\/p>\n
Much of this combined with lo-fi vaporwave visions of dystopian\/utopian civilizations have brought a new wave of popular fantasy upon us. Enjoy the ride.<\/p>\n
